Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients:

    • 2 9-inch pie crusts, unbaked
    • 6-7 cups apples, peeled and sliced (we recommend Granny Smith or Golden Delicious)
    • 3/4 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
    • 1/3 cup flour
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes

To Make:

Preheat oven to 425. Place the apples in large bowl. Sift together the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and salt. Sprinkle over apples and toss gently to coat. Set aside to rest about 5 minutes.

Press one pie crust into bottom of pie plate and crimp edges. Pour apples into crust and dot with the butter cubes. Cover apples with the top crust and cut 4 to 5 slits to allow steam to escape.

Bake until top crust begins to brown, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400, and bake another 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown and you can see the filling bubling. Let cool slightly and serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
