• 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1 cup raisins

To Make:

Dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand 5 minutes. Meanwhile, cream butter and sugar together. Add egg yolks and 1 1/2 cups of the flour and mix thoroughly. Add in the yeast, salt, vanilla, raisins and milk, and enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough. Knead until smooth.

Place dough in a greased bowl and turn once to coat. Cover and let rise until dough has doubled in size, about 90 minutes. Punch down and divide dough equally among 2-3 loaf pans. Cover and let rise 45 minutes.

Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
